@AmbaArmah no, it’s never too late. If you have the drive, go for it.

AmbaArmah June 20, 2010 at 10:21 pm

This was a fantastic video. I have often thought about a career in broadcast journalism. I love news! I love to write and I love public speaking. However, my background is in business. I’ve thought about going back to school to get a masters in Journalism. Is there an age where it’s just too late? I’ve been out of college for 7 years now.

@RandallYip – I certainly do appreciate your response. I know that what you said is true 100% but down here in the South things tend to work a little differently. I was always told, and I do believe that education is important and is the key to future opportunities, but you’ll be surprised at the number of people that got their jobs simply by knowing somebody, or know somebody, that know somebody, that knows somebody, that knows somebody else…… Thank you kindly for responding.

RandallYip June 20, 2010 at 11:23 pm

@cdwalker
An education is important. You need to know your stuff. But in any occupation, making connections with people is important. Will it get you the job without qualifications–no. But will it help you get a job if you are qualified, yes.
To think otherwise is being naive.

I want to know one thing: How can some people get their first gig in brodcast journalism w/o the proper education and others gotta have a Phd. just to get a internship? “I” will not be part of a buddy-buddy system just to get an opportunity. I am working on my B.S. now and plan to bust my but learning all I can learn and hopefully that’ll be enough to get started in the industry if it’s not then I guess its not meant to be.

MeredithOD June 21, 2010 at 3:05 am

Great video! Thank you so much for the insight! As an aspiring Broadcast Journalist doing research into what the job will entail, I greatly appreciate this information! It was well done, too.

Pocketrocklife June 21, 2010 at 3:28 am

Thanks for this video. It was helpful.

Tmoney95 June 21, 2010 at 4:03 am

Lucky? Every university should have that course…Damn…well if you want to be a journalist, then go to a university that has that as a major! Do not waste your money on school if they do not have the major for the career that you want at that school!

AhmadMashallah June 21, 2010 at 4:21 am

wow cool, I wish my school had that course.
you’re lucky!

Tmoney95 June 21, 2010 at 4:46 am

No you shouldnt have that many problems, however, I do not know how the universities are in Australia lol But you shouldnt…And in Journalism You’d be perfect, because you can learn a lot more english before you graduate, and you know your native language, so you’d be bilingual, which is always a plus for journalism!

I’m not a journalist yet, but I’m in school majoring in Journalism though lol

AhmadMashallah June 21, 2010 at 4:58 am

thanks you know pretty much about journalism are a journalist?
I come from a non-english speaking background and i’ve been practicing eng for the past 5 years. and next year im heading towards uni, so do you think i’ll experience more difficulties at uni and finding the job I want? by the way I live in Australia.
thanks. you really are helping me:)

Tmoney95 June 21, 2010 at 5:29 am

yea their called ‘news anchors’, or ‘Broadcast journalists’… So if Ahmadmashallah wants to be a news anchor, then he needs to major in Broadcast Journalism.

worldofbodybuilding June 21, 2010 at 6:22 am

the news reader I mean the person who presents the news on TV.

Tmoney95 June 21, 2010 at 6:38 am

A news reader? What do you mean? Do you mean a news anchor?

AhmadMashallah June 21, 2010 at 7:06 am

I want to become a news reader so can anyone tell me what major should I pick at uni?

cheerlove08 June 21, 2010 at 8:05 am

sammerzluvutube June 21, 2010 at 9:00 am

Exactly what I plan on doing with my life. Looks like a lot of work but I’m already doing some work experience while at college. Great video

Saxontail June 21, 2010 at 9:23 am

I’m getting there :) Watch out for me.

theohaigy June 21, 2010 at 9:37 am

Great video! I’m into journalism and I’d like to write for a newspaper but a career in TV behind the scenes really interests me. Thanks for posting.

txstormchaser2003 June 21, 2010 at 10:21 am

Thanks for the tips!

Citizens look with different eyes certain events, unlike professional journalists.

Awesome.. really good and helpful. Like UpstateLarry, I too would like to some day start a citizen journalism organization/website. I am currently a Journalism student at MTSU. Can anyone tell me some good citizen journalism websites that deal with both video journalism and print journalism as well?

More power to you guys. It would be nice to hear the truth for a change coming from a new reborn freedom of the press. Fox, CNN and all the rest of the bought and paid for liers is a joke anymore.

UpstateLarry June 21, 2010 at 1:33 pm

Amazing! What you guys do is actually my DREAM. I’m currently an elected Legislator from Upstate NY. But I would love to start a citizen journalism group/site in Upstate NY. What do you think the viability is for such a venture in a small city (Utica, pop. 60,000)?

wcarlpdrysdale June 21, 2010 at 2:28 pm
