Learning about journalism at Preston is a lot like working as a journalist. Our courses offer an experience that is exciting, varied, fast-moving and challenging. Students on these vocationally-orientated courses develop the journalism skills of researching, reporting, writing and production. These practical elements are underpinned by study of the work of journalists, including the development of news organisations, news values, sources, language, regulation, ethics and the uses and influences of news. The Department has a long history in journalism teaching. It has close links with the media industries and professional journalists and editors frequently visit Preston to meet and work with our students. The Department continues to expand and diversify, offering new career-centred opportunities to learn about journalism in all its forms. It is a member of the European Journalism Training Association and has a growing international reputation through its new international journalism programmes and links with journalism schools across the world. These links enable students to undertake foreign visits and exchange programmes. The teaching staff comprises professional journalists who have worked in national and regional media and who are increasingly informing their teaching with individual research. Our students use modern digital TV, radio, online and print production facilities. The majority of graduates seek careers in professional journalism and have succeeded in gaining

During early summer of 1967, Paul McCartney had admitted to an inquiring reporter that he had used LSD. This became a controversial issue, and a springboard for discussing the responsibilities of celebrities and journalists. The following segment was filmed on June 19th 1967 as a British TV-news interview, and was broadcast in Britain later that evening. Paul had just turned 25 the previous day. ‘Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’ had only been newly released just two weeks prior to this interview. So this was a potentially risky decision on Paul’s part to make this public announcement now. The Stones were being busted left and right, Jimi Hendrix had made his gigantic presence known in London and forever more at Monterey, and the Who were just about to crash into the US conscience at that same event. Big Year 1967. Here is a transcript of this interview: www.geocities.com Note: this upload is for historical purpose and hopefully entertainment as well. I don’t own the footage [but it's readily available on the internet] and am posting for enjoyment of the fans. Beatle Side note: This interview is also noted in the Beatles Anthology and, according to inside recollection of the reaction to Paul’s surprise admission, both John and George were piqued at this sudden attention to their private lives and LSD. Especially since they had been far more experimental in their ‘testing’ of its effects, and were perfectly willing to keep it private up to this point.

@swedish89 You don’t think it matters if someone is killed and replaced to promote a drug agenda for mind control purposes?

MikeGasm July 24, 2010 at 9:00 pm

FEW IF ANY PEOPLE WOULD KNOW ABOUT IT IF IT WAS NEVER REPORTED IN THE FIRST PLACE. And that applies to a lot of the ‘news’ today, too.

wouldntyoulike2know July 24, 2010 at 11:07 pm

I truely admire his honesty. That is a rare thing in the entertainment business, especially at the time in which he said this.

faulconandsnowjob July 24, 2010 at 11:25 pm

That’s not Paul. There is no evidence that Paul ever took LSD.

To think of someone in politics or big business actually asking themselves, “Should I lie or tell the truth?” is an amazing thing. Here you had one of the biggest pop star/musicians in the world asking himself what’s ethically right. I think McCartney gets too much criticism when I see something like this.

roadster81TS July 25, 2010 at 12:38 am

i think of LSD as a big hand. if inside of your trip you find that your mind grants you the permission to shake that hand. you feel as if youve made pact with not only your train of thought but your soul aswell. everyone gets a different cloud to float on. but if you come to find that you are not at ease with yourself nor the people you are with. it might not be something you should seek out over and over again. on the other hand if your just balls out nutts. sure get naked act a fool and rage.

bnyce52 July 25, 2010 at 1:08 am

Man, I can’t wait to go try LSD. I mean hell…. if Paul McCartney did it, that must mean I have to give it a shot!

Get a brain people. Do whatever YOU want to do. Rock on Paul.

faulconandsnowjob July 25, 2010 at 1:24 am
